More about West Twin Lake: This quiet, 66-acre no-wake lake has a shoreline of 1.38 miles and a maximum depth of 5 feet. Its bottom and shoreline are almost 100% sand. Public access is from an unimproved landing on the opposite end of the lake that’s only suitable for small craft. According the DNR, the lake freezes some winters but does have a few panfish.
What this lake lacks in fishing it more than makes up for in swimming and wildlife watching. You’ll have your own private sandy beach with excellent swimming and no steep dropoffs. Because there’s so little activity on the lake, you’ll also see lots of birds and wildlife. From their dining-room table, the home’s present owners have seen trumpeter swans, eagles, loons, herons, deer, and bear.
Abundant recreational opportunities nearby: You’ll be within minutes of dozens more lakes and streams that are great for fishing, boating, waterskiing, paddling, or waterfowling. Of special note: you’ll be just down the road from world-class trout fishing or whitewater paddling on the legendary Bois Brule. Or, if you’re more in the mood for walleyes, pike, musky, or panfish, it’s only a few miles in other direction to the landing at Upper Saint Croix Lake.
Nearby are thousands of acres of public and paper company land open for hunting, hiking, birding, or berry-picking. You’ll also be close to the North Country Hiking Trail and numerous other trails that are great for hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or ATVing.
Conveniently located: Despite its secluded setting, this home is only 7 miles from Solon Springs and U.S. Highway 53. It’s within easy commuting distance of Superior, Duluth, Hayward, or Spooner, and it’s less than 2 hours from Eau Claire or 3 hours from the Twin Cities.
