Biggest homeseller mistakes – survey results confirmed in NW Wisconsin real estate market

A recent survey of 1000 Real Estate Agents reveals the top six ways to sabotage the sale of your home.

NW Wisconsin: The most common reasons that a house will not sell are generally within the seller’s control according to a survey by the ActiveRain online real estate community. The top six ways that sellers turn potential buyers away are:

  • The home is overpriced
  • Difficult to set a showing time
  • Seller is unwilling to declutter the home
  • Unpleasant odors
  • Seller is unwilling to negotiate with buyers
  • Seller refuses to make repairs

Jean Hedren, Realtor with Edina Realty, Spooner WI confirms that these same findings hold true for homes in the four counties of NW Wisconsin – Douglas, Bayfield, Washburn, and Sawyer.

While it is our responsibility to educate the seller on the home selling process and those issues that can turn off a buyer, some sellers can get defensive about pets, odors, clutter, possible repairs. And, sometimes a seller’s ego might interfere with the market realities. It’s a fine line to walk.
