Favorite Bike Routes: Barnes and Eau Claire Lakes

Favorite Bike Routes in NW WI: Eau Claire Lakes, Part 1 (Lock & Dam to Barnes & Beyond)

This ride begins at the lock and dam located on South Shore Road, just off County Road Y. Its route takes you past Lower, Middle, and Upper Eau Claire Lakes, plus Birch, Bony, and Robinson Lakes. You could also begin your ride elsewhere along the route. After your ride, enjoy a burger and refreshments at the Cabin Store or one of the many other cafes and taverns in the Barnes area.
The route is generally clockwise: South Shore, Y, Lake, 27, Lake, Birch Lake, N, Robinson Lake, short detour to check out the landing at Robinson Lake, then back on Lake, 27, Lake, short detour on Peninsula to check out the boat landing, back on Lake, 27, Lake, L on River Road, and back to the starting point on South Shore Road. (For the whole route, don’t forget to check out Part 2.)
For more on the miniature lock and dam, check out those videos. By the way… If you do this ride in the summer and need to cool off afterward, there’s a great swimming hole just downstream from the dam. And for more on the Eau Claire Chain of Lakes and the channels that connect them, check out those videos.
