Gordon, Wisconsin

Gordon is located about halfway between Solon Springs and Minong, and is within commuting range of Superior and Duluth. It’s one of the largest towns—what might be called a township in other states—in Douglas County. Although Gordon does have an unincorporated “downtown” area, most of its 600-some inhabitants live in outlying areas. In what I like to call the “Greater Gordon Area,” you’ll also find a number of taverns and restaurants that offer great informal dining options. Be sure to check out their Friday fish fries and other specials.

You’ll also find limited lodging options at a couple of small resorts on the Gordon Flowage. A hotel and more cabin rentals are available just up the road in Solon Springs.

Curious about the real estate for sale in Gordon? First of all, Gordon is home to the Gordon Flowage, also known as the Saint Croix Flowage. At around 1900 acres, it’s one of the largest lakes in northwest Wisconsin. With its 29 miles of meandering shoreline, the Gordon Flowage offers plenty of quiet bays for fishing, waterfowling, and exploring.

The western portion of 802-acre Lower Eau Claire Lake also falls within Gordon. (The rest of the Eau Claire Chain of Lakes lies within the town of Barnes.) You’ll generally find more cabins, lake homes, and waterfront real estate for sale on Lower Eau Claire Lake than on the Gordon Flowage. There are also a number of smaller lakes in Gordon.

The Eau Claire River joins the Saint Croix River at Gordon, and waterfront properties do occasionally become available on both rivers. Off the water, you’ll find affordable homes in the country, plus some great hunting and recreational land.

There’s plenty to do in Gordon. If you like to fish, there’s the Gordon Flowage, Lower Eau Claire Lake, and a number of smaller lakes. There’s something for everyone: fishing, hunting, waterfowling, birding, ATV and snowmobile trails, camping, hiking, biking paddling, boating, swimming, and more. The North Country Hiking Trail passes through Gordon, and there’s also the Douglas County Wildlife Management Area, known locally as “The Bird Sanctuary.”
