This 150-acre lake is conveniently located west of Minong and just off Highway 77. It’s about halfway in between Mathews Lake and North and South Twin Lakes. McClain Lake has a shoreline of 2 miles, a maximum depth of 30 feet, and a mean depth of 11 feet. Secchi disk readings are around 19 feet.
In McLain Lake, you’ll find northerns, walleyes, largemouth bass, and panfish. Public access is from a landing at the southwest corner.
Although much of the lake remains undeveloped, the presence of Highway 77 along its southern edge means that McLain Lake has less of a wilderness feel to it. In exchange, you get convenient access and a quick drive up from the Twin Cities.
There aren’t a lot of homes or cabins on McClain Lake. Those that do come on the market can be in a wide range of sizes and prices. Many of them have sandy waterfronts that are good for swimming.
