Round Lake (Hayward, Wisconsin)

This 3,054-acre lake is one of the largest and most sought-after in Sawyer County.  It’s just east of Hayward; other nearby lakes include Lac Court Oreilles, Grindstone Lake, Tiger Cat Flowage, and the Chippewa Flowage.

Round Lake is deep, clear, and cold.  That makes it especially popular with recreational boaters, waterskiiers, and jet ski enthusiasts.  If you’re more interested in quiet paddling, pontooning, or birding and wildlife viewing, then I’d be glad to help you find a home or cabin on some other lake.  (Just the northeast, for example, are the lakes that make up the Tiger Cat Flowage.  Or, just a bit farther to the north, there’s the Spider Lake Chain and the three quiet lakes of Lost Land Lake, Teal Lake, and Ghost Lake.)

But for those seeking a more full recreation sort of weekend getaway, Round Lake is perfect.  It has a shoreline of 19.7 miles, a maximum depth of 74 feet, a mean depth of 31 feet, and secchi disk readings of around 18 feet.   In it, you’ll find muskies, northerns, walleyes, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and panfish.  Public access is via several boat landings and resorts.

As you can see from this aerial, nearly all of the lake’s shoreline is dotted with lake homes.  Some are small cabins, and most are in the middle to upper price ranges.
