Smith Lake (Hayward, Wisconsin)

This 323-acre lake is located just north of Hayward, about halfway in between Hayward and Nelson Lake.  When you drive by on Highway 77/27, you’ll get just a brief glimpse of Smith Lake’s southern end.

Smith Lake has a shoreline of 4.5 miles and a maximum depth of 29 feet.  In it, you’ll find northerns, walleyes, largemouth bass, and panfish.  Public access is via a boat landing at the lake’s southeast corner.

With the exception of a few marshy areas, most of Nelson Lake’s shoreline is dotted with cabins and lake homes that are available in a range of sizes and prices.  Because most of the buildable shoreline has already been developed, vacant lots come on the market more rarely.
