This sprawling, 3,227 acre lake is one of the premier lakes of Bayfield County.  It has a shoreline of 43.62 miles, a maximum depth of 51 feet, and a mean depth of 16 feet.  In it, you’ll find muskies, northerns, walleyes, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and panfish.  Secchi disk readings are around 6 feet.  The lake is large and complex enough so you’ll want to bring a good map.

Although fishing can be good, on summer weekends anglers are wise to get out early and get off the water by later in the morning.  The lake has a number of resorts is very popular with boaters, water-skiers, and jet ski enthusiasts.  On weekends, even the more remote bays can see a fair amount of traffic.  (In the winter, this lake is also quite popular with snowmobilers.)

If you’re looking for that sort of experience, then Lake Namekagon might be the spot for you.  Be aware, however, that most homes and cabins tend to be in the upper price ranges.

Lake Namekagon is near Cable, where you’ll find restaurants, shopping, and a small airfield.  Numerous golf courses are nearby.
