It’s a cold, gray, rainy, drizzly October day here in northwest Wisconsin, and that makes me think of real estate. (Actually, sunny days make me think of real estate, too.)
Specifically, I was just thinking about how so many of my listing photos were shot on sunny days with blue skies and big puffy white clouds. Blue skies, white clouds, green grass, mirror-calm lakes… I love those photos, and they’re tremendously appealing.
But so are certain other photos I use now and then—photos like the one above, taken on a winter evening just after dusk. It’s a six-bedroom luxury lake home I’m currently listing on Whitefish Lake. This beautiful beachfront home with 365’ of level, sugar sand frontage is still beautiful during those winter months when sunscreen goes stale.
Picture yourself in this picture, arriving home at dusk. It’s warm inside, and it won’t take long to light a fire in the fireplace.
If you’re already seeing yourself on the beach next spring and summer, check out the other photos below. To learn more about this exclusive property, click 8526 E Baker Rd, Gordon, WI. To see all my listings, click www.JeanHedren.com.
Beachfront Luxury When the Gales of November Come Early on Whitefish Lake
With its price recently reduced, this 6BR luxury lake home on 832-acre, 102’ deep Whitefish Lake is a tremendous value on an truly special lake. If the gales of November come early, you’ll be able to watch the whitecaps roll in from your own private beachfront—or, if you like, right from your hot tub. Once you’ve come back inside, you can watch the waves roll in from just about any room in your house—including from the comfort of an easy chair beside your massive living-room fireplace. And next summer when the lake is calm and the clouds are gone… Bring plenty of sunscreen.
Whitefish Lake, shown on some older maps as Bardon Lake, is in the southern portion of northwest Wisconsin’s Douglas County. It’s much deeper and colder than most lakes in northern Wisconsin—so much so, in fact, that it does actually have whitefish in it (ciscoes, to be precise). Although fished commercially in Lake Superior, they’re found in only a small number of the region’s deepest, coldest inland lakes. (Whitefish Lake also contains northern pike, walleye, trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappies, and bluegills.)
According to the DNR, the shoreline of Whitefish Lake is around 95% sand. Better yet, this home’s 365’ of level frontage is 100% sand. Enjoy this magnificent 4,000 sq ft. home on 21+ acres of wooded privacy. Located at the head of the lake with a western exposure, incredible sunsets, and spectacular views down the full length of the lake. This stunning architect-designed home has an open floor plan that affords lake views from nearly every room. All the amenities you’d expect, with quality touches throughout. Attached, three-car heated garage and low or no-maintenance landscaping.

Beachfront luxury on one of NW Wisconsin’s deepest, clearest lakes – Whitefish Lake
The Details
About Whitefish (Bardon) Lake
Compared to most other lakes in northwestern Wisconsin, 832-acre Whitefish (Bardon) Lake is different in two ways. First, although a number of fine homes have been built on the lake, special shoreland zoning ordinances have done much to preserve the lake’s natural and scenic beauty. From your home at the head of Whitefish Lake, you’ll be able to look southward across a huge expanse of water whose shore appears largely uninhabited. The lake is wild enough, in fact, so that eagles and loons are spotted frequently. Second, the lake is deep, cold, and clear. According to the DNR, it has a maximum depth of 102′ and a mean depth of 30′. Over 60% of the lake is deeper than 20′, and less than 4% is less than 3′ deep. Secchi disk readings average 22 to 23′. The littoral bottom is over 95% sand; most of the remainder is rock rubble. The lake boasts an unusual two-story fishery, with warm-water species in shallow areas and trout in the depths. In recent years, the lake has yielded a number of trophy-class pike, walleye, largemouth, smallmouth, and trout (both brown and rainbow). The lake also contains bluegills, rock bass, perch, white suckers, and creek chubs. Conveniently located. Spooner, Hayward, and Superior are all within 40 minutes. It’s an easy 45-minute commute to Duluth, and it’s just 2.5 hours to Eau Claire or the Twin Cities. You’ll find small public airfields at Solon Springs, Hayward, Spooner, Shell Lake, and Superior.
